Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to the next. - GKChesterton

Guard It Well

But sometimes I get a little concerned about those who don't remember our fledgling past. I worry that they might not be as careful as we were forced to be, to protect the right to teach our own children. The real danger, in a word, is that homeschooling has become mainstream (Ugh!). When a movement becomes mainstream, I contend that it is in jeopardy.

NCHE Scholarships Awarded

In December 2011, forty-eight homeschool seniors sent application packets to be considered for one of six scholarships that NCHE administers. Transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, two letters of recommendation and a personal essay were required from each student. A committee carefully examined each packet, ranking each one. Those rankings were then compiled and the winners were chosen. We at NCHE are blessed to be able to administer these scholarships each year, and it is amazing to see the level of scholarship and talent among the applicants.

The ADD Mom Homeschools

“It ain’t fittin’, it just ain’t fittin’,” declared Scarlett O’Hara’s mammy in a scene from Gone with the Wind. Many times, I have wondered if “it just ain’t fittin’” for me, a mom with Attention Deficit Disorder, to homeschool my kids.

I am in good company at my house. My son John was diagnosed with ADD early and often. He has a few other initials, too, but it’s the ADD that causes him to wear his shoes on the wrong feet and throw his fork in the trashcan while trying to load his napkin into the dishwasher.
