Welcome to Region 2

Great to have you join us here in the foothills of North Carolina.  If you are new to homeschooling I encourage you to get involved with a local support group and to become a member of NCHE.  I also invite you to join our regional yahoo group, Homeschooling in the Hills of NC (HHNC) where regional activities and events are posted.  I have also listed below some places to visit that are specific to our area to help you get started with some family fun.  Let me know if I can be of help to you in your homeschool journey by contacting me at the email address above.

We are here to assist you in any way we can in your homeschooling journey! Just email us at region2@nche.com and we're glad to answer any questions you may have about homeschooling.  We encourage you to join a support group in your area and to also become a member of NCHE.  Below you will find a list of the active support group in our area.

Dr. Matthew McDill

Dr. Matthew McDill and his wife, Dana, homeschool their nine children in Creston, NC. Matthew is the new NCHE region 3 liaison. He has a Bible teaching ministry, Truth to Freedom, and is a pastor of Highland Christian Fellowship in Boone, NC. You can read his blog and listen to his podcast at truthtofreedom.org. Matthew regularly teaches marriage and family retreats at Cherokee Cove Family Retreat Center in Mountain City, TN (www.cherokeecove.org). He is also president of High Country Christian Home Schoolers and taught communication at Appalachian State University. Matthew holds a B.S. in communication and two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in biblical studies.

Regional Groups

NCHE is committed to helping North Carolina homeschoolers succeed, including fostering community.
There are many and various groups and associations throughout the state devoted to supporting home educators.

  • Christian group offers co-op groups, library, spelling/geography bee.  Membership requirements:  need to live in the local area.  

  • BGGHF is a community of Christian families who desire to see their children pursue godly character.

  • 25 families; secular, inclusive homeschool group.  Co-op in Tryon, NC.  The primary functions are to share information and get families together for activities.  Others welcome to join.

  • Faithful Instructors is a small, casual homeschool moms support group.

  • Heritage homeschoolers provides help and encouragement for area families who have chosen to educate their children themselves at home.

  • We are a group of Christian homeschool families seeking to love, support, encourage and enrich families who have chosen to teach, train and educate their children at home.

  • Our co-op group is made up of Christian families who support one another in their efforts to educate their children at home.  We are a true co-op which requires participation of the parents.

  • Family support, activities for children of all ages, moms' group, monthly meetings for all.

  • There is a very active online Yahoo Groups that you can join.  You will find a lot of information on our area, be able to ask questions and just stay informed.     

  • Close-knit, family-centered, Christian-based, very active group.  Activitiesinclude co-ops, field trips, holiday parties, camping trips, field day, picnics, testing days, and more.

  • This group was created to relay information and resources specifically related to homeschooling Autistic children of all ages in our McDowell County and surrounding Western North Carolina a
