Online Classes? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Moving into the future with homeschooling, the availability of online education is exploding! Is it effective? Is it legal? How does it work? If we are thinking about it, what age should we begin? What are the pros and cons? Aren’t all of the classes about the same? And maybe the most important question—can the teacher see us in our jammies? Between them, Diane and Marji have homeschooled nine children, all moved into college, and both have one more remaining in their homes. Over the years, they have run the gamut—no outside classes, a few outside classes, no online classes, some online classes (and hated them), some online classes (and loved them)—and both moms now teach through an online academy. They have “been there, done that,” and seen the pros and cons from both sides—information only a handful of people can offer. Here are some questions to ask the class providers, your children and yourselves if you are considering an online element to your homeschool.
