Chores & Character: Raising Self-sufficient Children of God
In a culture that idolizes convenience and where responsibility is often optional, a homegrown life offers something far more lasting—an environment where children grow in strength, purpose, and faith through meaningful daily work. This session explores how gardening, homesteading, and other hands-on acts of provision for others create space for intentional character development. Everyday chores become opportunities to teach discipline, cultivate humility, and root kids deeply in God’s truth.
Mike Dickson, known online as The Fit Farmer, is a former professional bodybuilder who transitioned from the health and fitness industry to full-time homesteading after realizing the most reliable path to healthy living was growing his own food. In 2015, Mike and his wife, Lacie, sold their city home and moved into a 700-square-foot yurt in the countryside to pursue an agrarian, family-centered lifestyle. Today, they operate a thriving farmstead, raising pasture-raised livestock and cultivating a productive market garden. Through his YouTube channel, The Fit Farmer, Mike documents their journey and encourages others to take ownership of their health, food, and families. He is also a passionate teacher and speaker, helping people reclaim a simpler, more intentional, and connected way of life.
