On March 5, 2013 NCHE had bills filed in the NC House of Representatives and the Senate to change the 1988 definition of &#8220;home school&#8221;. On Thursday, May 30, 2013 Governor Pat McCrory signed Senate Bill 189 modifying the definition of homeschool in the law.<\/p>\n<h3>Definitions:<\/h3>\n<dl>\n<dt><strong>Home school<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>means a nonpublic school consisting of the children of not more than two families or households, where the parents or legal guardians or members of either household determine the scope and sequence of academic instruction, provide academic instruction and determine additional sources of academic instruction.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<dl>\n<dt><strong>Duly authorized representative of the state<\/strong><\/dt>\n<dd>The Director of The Division of Non-Public Education or his\/her staff<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<h3>Requirements:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Notify the Department of Administration, Division of Non-Public Education of your intent to operate a school and include your school name, and name of chief administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Certify that the persons providing the academic instruction hold at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain attendance records on each student.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain immunization records on each student.<\/li>\n<li>Operate on a regular schedule, excluding reasonable holidays and vacations, during at least nine calendar months of the year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/testing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Administer a nationally standardized test, or other equivalent measurement<\/a>, that measures achievement in the areas of English grammar, reading, spelling, and math, to every student each year, and maintain the results on file for one year, <a href=\"\/law\/record-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subject to inspection by a duly authorized representative of the State<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Notify the Department of Administration, Division of Non-Public Education, when moving, or closing your school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.16&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; custom_padding__hover=&#8221;|||&#8221;][et_pb_sidebar area=&#8221;et_pb_widget_area_2&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][\/et_pb_sidebar][et_pb_sidebar _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_sidebar][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ley de educaci\u00f3n en el hogar Art\u00edculo 39 del cap\u00edtulo 115C Durante la sesi\u00f3n de 1988 de la Asamblea General de Carolina del Norte, se enmend\u00f3 el art\u00edculo 39 del cap\u00edtulo 115C de los Estatutos Generales (www.ncga.state.nc.us) para permitir la instrucci\u00f3n en el hogar, bajo ciertas condiciones, como un medio para cumplir con los requisitos de asistencia escolar obligatoria.
