Like other private schools, homeschools may set their own graduation requirements. Public high schools in NC require a student to have a minimum of 20 or 21 or as high as 24 or 26 credits to graduate (depending on their track). When your student has met your graduation requirements, you may issue a diploma. Graduation Ceremony Some support groups organize graduation ceremonies, while some families prefer to plan their own personal service. NCHE hosts a statewide graduation ceremony in conjunction with the annual conference in Winston-Salem in May each year. Diplomas Each homeschool in the state of North Carolina is a private school and has the privilege of conferring a high school diploma on students who have successfully met the graduation requirements set by the homeschool. Families who are planning to issue diplomas should keep their homeschool open until their last student graduates. Families may design their own diploma or purchase ready-made or custom-made diplomas. NCHE does not confer diplomas or set graduation requirements. However, NCHE prints a distinctive homeschool diploma enclosed in a hunter green cover. This diploma includes the student’s name, school name and graduation date. The homeschool chief administrator will be responsible for signing the diploma to certify that the student has completed the homeschool’s high school graduation requirements. You will need to know your graduate’s graduation date when ordering a diploma. Diplomas will be shipped within four weeks of receipt of payment and approval of the proof. A proof via email is sent within three weeks.
