Join NCHE on our first ever field trip to the Sullenberger Aviation Museum, 4108 Minuteman Way, Charlotte, NC.\u00a0 Founded in 1992 and originally named the Charlotte Aviation Museum, a new facility was built and re-opened on June 1, 2024, as the Sullenberger Aviation Museum.\u00a0 Named for the &#8220;Miracle on the Hudson&#8221; pilot &#8220;Sully Sullenberger,&#8221; the museum features 40 iconic aircraft&#8211;including Sully&#8217;s plane&#8211;inspiring visitors to pursue their dreams of taking flight and writing their own stories into the future of aviation. Additionally, the museum features replicas of the Wright Brothers\u2019 Flyer and Glider planes, a Vietnam-era F-4S Phantom II, one of only two manufactured Skystreak planes used to test breaking the sound barrier, and a P-80 (TV-1 Shooting Star), one of the first jet fighters used during combat. Visitors can try out flight simulators and sit in cockpits imagining the feeling of flying these craft.\u00a0 Immersive storytelling and hands-on, interactive exhibits capture the imagination of kids of all ages.
