Our NCHE board of directors recently met for a three day planning meeting. The stated goals of NCHE are to provide, promote and protect. We strive to provide information and support for those of you who homeschool. We promote homeschooling as a great way to educate children. We work to protect your right to direct your children\u2019s education and homeschool in this state. During our meetings, much time was spent discussing how we can better serve you.<\/p>\n

The face of homeschooling has changed quite a bit over the years and that presents many new challenges for us as an organization. The motivations for homeschooling may not always be the same as they were for those of us who started many years ago. The methods of homeschooling may not even be the same. We are adapting and are in the process of making changes in what we offer through our website, annual conference, seminars and other avenues, and we\u2019ll work to keep you updated on everything that\u2019s happening. We want you to know we are working hard to be a valuable resource for each of you.<\/p>\n

One group we especially want to target is new homeschoolers. Statistically a large percentage will quit within the first three years. We realize those who have been at it longer also have needs, and we can\u2019t ignore them, but the \u201cnewbies\u201d really need our help so they will stay in the game for the long haul. I would like to challenge you to help other homeschoolers, especially those who are new at it, by doing the following:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Encourage someone! We all need encouragement along the way and one reason moms (and dads) decide to quit is they become discouraged because they don\u2019t have anyone cheering them on.<\/li>\n
  • Be a mentor to a less experienced homeschooler. Remember how you felt when you first began homeschooling? Take some time to help someone. And besides, it\u2019s good for you, too.<\/li>\n
  • Do them a favor; don\u2019t paint a perfect picture of your homeschool! Be real with them. Many become discouraged because they feel they fall short of the standard the \u201cpros\u201d have set.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    We stress teamwork in our organization, and we consider each of you part of the team. If you have ideas on how we can best support and encourage new homeschoolers, we\u2019d love to hear from you. Thanks for your help and support!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Mike and Ronda Marshall<\/strong>\u00a0are the parents of six (ages twelve to twenty-nine) and, so far, have graduated four children from their homeschool in Asheville, NC. They are in their twentieth year of homeschooling. Mike is an electrical engineer, working as an engineering consultant to the electric utility industry. They have served on the board of NCHE since 2003 where Mike has served as president and regional director, and Ronda is currently the homeschool helps director. Together they have established and coordinated local homeschool support groups, email groups, co-ops, enrichment classes and conferences in their area. Ronda is presently serving as the director of Biltmore Baptist Church Homeschool Ministry that serves families in western NC. Over the past few years, they have had the privilege of speaking at various support groups and state conferences where they love having the opportunity to encourage fellow families in this wonderful, yet sometimes challenging homeschooling journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    24 de octubre de 2012 Nuestra junta directiva de NCHE se reuni\u00f3 recientemente para una reuni\u00f3n de planificaci\u00f3n de tres d\u00edas. Los objetivos declarados de NCHE son proporcionar, promover y proteger. Nos esforzamos por brindar informaci\u00f3n y apoyo a aquellos de ustedes que estudian en casa. Promovemos la educaci\u00f3n en el hogar como una excelente manera de educar a los ni\u00f1os. Trabajamos para proteger su derecho a dirigir la educaci\u00f3n y educaci\u00f3n en el hogar de sus hijos en este estado. Durante nuestras reuniones, pasamos mucho tiempo discutiendo c\u00f3mo podemos servirle mejor. La cara de la educaci\u00f3n en el hogar ha cambiado bastante a lo largo de los a\u00f1os y eso presenta muchos desaf\u00edos nuevos para nosotros como organizaci\u00f3n. Las motivaciones para la educaci\u00f3n en el hogar pueden no ser siempre las mismas que para aquellos de nosotros que comenzamos hace muchos a\u00f1os. Es posible que los m\u00e9todos de educaci\u00f3n en el hogar ni siquiera sean los mismos. Nos estamos adaptando y estamos en proceso de hacer cambios en lo que ofrecemos a trav\u00e9s de nuestro sitio web, conferencia anual, seminarios y otras v\u00edas, y trabajaremos para mantenerlo actualizado sobre todo lo que sucede. Queremos que sepan que estamos trabajando arduamente para ser un recurso valioso para cada uno de ustedes. Un grupo al que queremos dirigirnos especialmente es el de los nuevos educadores en el hogar. Estad\u00edsticamente, un gran porcentaje dejar\u00e1 de fumar dentro de los primeros tres a\u00f1os. Nos damos cuenta de que aquellos que han estado en esto por m\u00e1s tiempo tambi\u00e9n tienen necesidades, y no podemos ignorarlos, pero los "novatos" realmente necesitan nuestra ayuda para permanecer en el juego a largo plazo.
