Join NCHE to experience America’s Largest Home®, as magnificent today as it was more than a century ago when it was built. Your self-paced, audio-guided house visit spans three floors and the basement of the luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt. Built between 1889 and 1895 with more than 179,000 square feet of floor space, Biltmore remains the largest private, family-owned house in the United States.  While the current acreage of Biltmore Estate is approximately 8,000 acres, the acreage during George Vanderbilt’s lifetime was approximately 125,000 acres and included property later sold to the federal government to create Pisgah National Forest, one of the first national forests east of the Mississippi.  75 acres remain as formal and informal gardens designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead who also designed New York’s Central Park.  Explore the stories of the Vanderbilt family, their guests, and employees through displays of vintage clothing, accessories, art, furniture, and more.

In addition to your self-paced audio tour of the house, your admission includes:
~~  Antler Hill Village
~~  The historic farm where craftsmen may be exhibiting their skills and animals are always present
~~  The Conservatory, gardens, grounds and playground
~~  The Legacy Building featuring a film about the Vanderbilt family and an exhibit about the family’s connection to the sinking of the Titanic
~~
Access to bike rentals, 22 miles of trails to explore, geocaching and more

You will need to select one of four timed house tour choices:  10, 10:15, 12:30, (12:45 SOLD OUT) and 1.  Please note:  You must check in a minimum of one hour BEFORE the time you select.  So, 10 a.m. tour: you need to be present no later than 9 a.m.  On the other hand, you may arrive as early as 9 a.m. and explore other parts of the property until it is your tour time.
