Sleepin’ with the Fishes 2
Ft. Fisher Aquarium
900 Loggerhead Rd, Kure Beach, NC
March 8-9, 2025
Make connections with the natural world during NCHE’s exclusive overnight field trip at Ft. Fisher Aquarium! Children 5 and older along with their parent will sleep in front of the 235,000 gallon aquatic habitat while sharks, eels, and sea turtles swim close by. The evening’s activities include:
~~ a Scavenger Hunt that will familiarize you with the building–and spark curiosity about things seen.
~~ the interactive Fins and Flippers program where you’ll learn about the superpowers of sharks, the function of fins and fun facts about the fish and their friends in the Cape Fear Shoals habitat.
~~ Meet some of Ft. Fisher’s ambassador animals. An ambassador animal is a representative for its species and its habitat in the wild. In this program, you will learn about the ambassador
animals’ stories, their lifestyles, and adaptations, and learn how everyday choices can help preserve and protect our neighbors in nature and the resources that we share.
~~ Learn Gyotaku, the ancient art form of Japanese fish printing. Discover the history behind this craft and make a Gyotaku tote bag to take home.
~~ Settle down to sleep in front of the huge habitat while watching an educational film about sea life.
~~ Participate in a private before-the-doors-open-to-the public guided tour on Saturday morning. You are welcome to stay as long as you wish on Saturday.
