Field trip canceled
What do bobcats, coyotes, black snakes, chickens and otters have in common? They are some of the more than 60 species of wildlife and domestic animals that are part of the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville! NCHE has arranged a field trip there for morning of Monday, October 26, 2026. Wildlife exhibits and enclosures share Nature Center space with a domestic animal area including barnyard fowl, sheep, goats and more. In addition to the self-paced visit, spending as much or as little time as you wish in each area, we will be taken in turns (individual group sizes limited to approximately 25) for a 30 minute Animal Encounter with reptiles and/or amphibians. Learn the differences between the species from Nature Center environmental educators. Average visit time, approximately 2 hours.
Arrive 9:45 for the opening of the Center at 10 a.m. We will have in-and-out privileges, so you can return to your car if necessary (especially handy if you don’t want to carry a lunch bag around the 42 acre site.) Picnic spaces are available on site. Tickets are transferable to others for the same day and time but are non-refundable. This is a rain or shine field trip. No unaccompanied children/No unaccompanied adults.
Ticket purchase deadline is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2026. NOTE: because of limited space in the Animal Encounter, the best way to be in the same session as your friends is to make one registration/ticket order for your whole friend group. Tickets, including all taxes and fees are:
Children 0-3 yo: Free
Students 4-high school: $8.15
Adults (high school grads +): $18.95
